Abstract

OFDM (orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) is considered as a principal element in the development of the 4G of mobile system. The OFDM performance can be improved using the channel coding. The channel coding technique is a class of signal transformations designed to improve communication system performance. The work presented in this paper discusses the improvement of OFDM system performance using different channel coding techniques. These coding techniques include Reed Solomon, Convolutional, Concatenated (by combining Reed Solomon with Convolutional), and Interleaved concatenated coding techniques. Besides, a new algorithm produced to choose a good convolutional encoder design with a good distance property for a certain rate and memory registers. The simulation results will be provided for the Rayleigh fading channel model.
